Pros & Cons

  • I really like being a part of a large company. The amount of opportunities, diversity in the type of work performed, and the amount of people you meet is great experience for a graduate.
  • The opportunity to progress your career.
  • I'm part of an amazing team where everyone is open to help and we all have a "yes I can" mentality. The only 'wrong' questions are the ones you don't ask, and the manager and senior employees are always happy to explain.
  • The thing which stands out for me at MRL is the cultural diversity and inclusiveness. The people are friendly, approachable, and overall it has a good work culture.
  • Since the company is still in the growth phase, there's a lack of fixed processes/procedures to complete certain tasks.
  • The company reacts to the market and is constantly evolving, which can be both positive and negative. This can be stressful when prioritizing tasks as things shift so quickly.
  • The lack of communication between departments.
  • The extra hours that you sometimes have to do to get the job done.

Career Prospects
During my time as a graduate, I was always told that if there is anything that you find interesting let the managers know so they can get you trying it out. In the end, they want you to do what you love just as much as yourself.

They are actively seeking to increase diversity and inclusion within the workplace. In the office there is a good level of gender diversity, as well as recent policies published regarding maternity leave and new childcare facilities available at the Osborne Park office.

The company has recently developed world class offices in Osborne Park. Employees are expected to dress formally, i.e., in dress shirt and pants, with the exception of casual Friday.

Recruitment
I was referred through a friend and contacted almost immediately for an interview. After my first interview I was asked to provide additional information such as my academic transcript, referees, COVID-19 vaccination certification and to complete a National Police Clearance check. I was then invited for a second interview and was contacted within a few days to say that I was the successful candidate. The process was really quick and they communicated with me throughout the whole process, via email and phone.

As soon as I started a 10% company wide bonus was introduced, I don't think anyone could be upset about that!

The learning and development team put a lot of effort into the graduate program. They have organized sessions where senior leadership and past graduates have provided insights and advice to current graduates about their careers. The company has also provided study assistance for me to pursue post graduate qualifications related to my current role.
