Design reviews, greenfield designs, vendor correspondence, and stakeholder management

I'm working as a graduate mining engineer.. My day-to-day responsibilities start from daily planning, creating drill and blast designs, product movement plans, and other designs required for daily mining operations.

Currently I'm responsible for (1) communications/administrative tasks which involves liaising with suppliers and key business stakeholders, (2) helping my team identify any cost saving opportunities in certain business areas, (3) reviewing and summarising T&Cs, (4) helping my team draft contracts.

I work in a small team of myself and my manager, where I complete a number of tasks depending on the priorities of board schedules, reporting periods, and other deadlines external to the company. I mainly do a lot of research and preparation of documents, as well as internal stakeholder liaison.

I'am still in the learning stage at the moment. I've been given a couple of projects and designs for practice.

I'am constantly busy and always have something new to do

Each day presents new lessons and challenges, I constantly feel like I am learning and developing.

I work in an area where no university degree can really prepare you for the types of tasks you are given. The day-to-day tasks have a wide variety but are usually document orientated and involve liaising with other people in the business. Many of the tasks are cantered around organising people/events/information.

My responsibilities change based on the project I'm working. So far they include: - QC seismic lines and their position, mapping particular assets on surface and delineate structures on the subsurface (seismic interpretation), literature reviews related to the different projects, site visits, writing reports and preparing presentations to showcase later results, and catch-up meetings with contractors and my team.

I assist in the release of mine plans from short to long term along with operational and drill designs. I also keep track of the mine production. These infer some responsibilities in sending out daily planning and production reports as well as hosting meetings.

I never feel overwhelmed with tasks as there is always someone to sound off on and I'm encouraged to ask questions in the event that I have been given a task and I'm unsure how to do it.
