The Story of Philips Australia

Frederik Philips and his son, Gerard founded Phillips & Co in 1891 in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. In the 1910s, the company’s breakthroughs in X-ray tubes marked the origin of Philips' involvement in health technology. In the 1980s, it remained at the forefront of consumer digital technologies.

In Australia, Philips opened its first office in NSW in 1927. In 1992, Philips donated a new lighting system for the Harbour Bridge in Sydney. Their regional sales and support offices are located in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide.

Over the past 10 years, Philips has undergone a transformation to reshape its portfolio and become a focused health technology company. It is highly active in segments that offer significant potential for growth. For more than 130 years today, Philips has continued to improve people’s lives with ground-breaking innovations that resulted in approximately 57,000 patent rights.

Culture & vibe

As a technology company, Philips innovates for people with a consistent belief that there is always a way to make life better. Innovations are driven by customer and consumer needs, aiming to help people to live healthily and prevent disease, to give clinicians the tools they need to make a precise diagnosis and deliver personalized treatment, and to help the patient's recovery at home.

However, they rarely innovate in isolation and partner more and more with start-ups, health providers, universities (university hospitals), or other companies. Because meaningful innovations remain at the heart of everything they do, employees are valued in all aspects of diversity. Leveraging differences makes them more creative and innovative. Differences are their strength.

The diverse and inclusive workplace will bring the proven benefits of enhanced innovation, greater performance, and employee satisfaction. By representing the customers in all their diversity in their own teams, they can best anticipate the needs of their customers, now and in the future.
