Size and presence: Our Software Defined Network (SDN) connects 700+ enabled data centers in 20+ countries across North America, Asia Pacific, and Europe.

Best known for: We’ve created the network that’s bringing the world’s businesses closer together.

The good bits: The sales team works together cohesively. Pay is average with decent SPIFFs for new customer wins. Only a few services to sell with higher dollar MVE just coming into play.

The not-so-good bits: Lots of organizational politics and revenue-chasing that overrides good decision-making.

The Megaport story

Megaport was founded in Australia by industry expert and entrepreneur Bevan Slattery (iSeek, PIPE Networks, NextDC, Asia Pacific Data Centre Trust, SubPartners, Superloop, Cloudscene) who aimed to create an SDN-based platform that gave customers access to elastic interconnection services, aligning these network services to cloud-based models. The vision was to give customers greater simplicity, control, and choice over how they connected to and between the services, applications, providers, and networks they needed for their businesses.

Launched in the Asia Pacific across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, and Hong Kong. The Company started to build up its ecosystem of customers and service providers, striking partnerships with Microsoft Azure, AWS, and Google Cloud to enable users to build connections to world-class cloud services.

Listed on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX: MP1) in a successful IPO. Raised $25 million at $1.25 per share to help fund the Company’s growth strategy, which included hiring additional engineering and sales professionals and expanding our network operations in North America and Europe.
