Job Satisfaction at Department of Defence - Civilian Engineer Development Program (Navy)

Responsibilities include researching requirements and testing of engineering systems on ships

My day to day responsibilities involve supporting my cell to deliver engineering advice and support to navy in the area of environmental protection.

Primarily programming at the moment, with opportunities to expand my workload in the future. Very little time pressure which is nice. Open ended job allowing me choose how I work and what I do with the program.

Reviewing reports, general engineering work.

Constant learning and exploration of topics associated with my current rotation to become a subject matter expert. Analyse and advise Defence personnel regarding specific engineering problems, issues or new directives. Liaison with other APS departments to follow through with project demands and help in specific information or engineering related topics.

Development and testing of routing protocols. Network simulation. Documentation

Interesting work across a broad range of engineering topics.

Role will vary between teams and rotations Tasking often involves programming, assisting with executing data collection events or product demonstrations, procurement of parts or services to improve workflow and capabilities of team, or providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice for other projects

Very engaging and I am getting involved in a lot of great projects.

Assist with tasks the cell/section require me to do

Responsibilities include: -Document review -Lab maintenance -Undertake short courses (either face-to-face or online) to build technical knowledge -Support team members with any other tasking

Work feels important and is challenging

As a graduate engineer, I find it exciting that I can work on different projects that support the Navy. Everyday is a learning experience!

As a graduate I have been given a lot of responsibility, for example to lead my own project, but I know I have a solid support network if I ever fall.
