Working at CommBank has been a great experience and a large part of that is attributed to the people.

The process:

Applying for the CommBank Graduate program was quite a streamlined process consisting of a few different stages which were never too intimidating or confronting. The final round is the assessment centre which was a great experience where we participated in a one-on-one interview, a group task and presentation.

The rotations:

One of the most appealing things about the Graduate Program is the rotations which allow you to gain exposure across your Business Unit. Within Marketing, there are several teams who focus on a diverse range of segments, products and experiences. Being a graduate, I’ve been able to work in five teams across Marketing so far which has been invaluable for my development as I move from team to team. I am currently working in an external rotation within the Digital Team, where my focus is on the Mobile and Tablet experience for our customers.

The best part:

A key observation from my time at CommBank has been that graduates are trusted and given real responsibility. Ownership is so critical as a graduate because it allows you to challenge yourself and at the same time, deliver valuable work. In my experience to date, I have been involved in running campaigns and events, liaising with several stakeholders, ideation and strategy sessions and content creation, among many other opportunities. The responsibility drives you to step up and push yourself but there is always support and guidance from your team to ensure that you are on the right path. It’s a great balance!

Aside from the work side of things, the Graduate Program gives us exposure to the whole business through workshops and Master Classes and allows us to engage in community projects. We even kicked off ‘Candid’, a graduate-organised staff forum where thought-provoking ideas and experiences are shared.

The CommBank culture:

Working at CommBank has been a great experience and a large part of that is attributed to the people. Not only are they eager to help you develop and grow, but they take a proactive stance on giving you opportunities. Managers have often asked me what I’m interested in and what I want to learn in order to get the most out of my time in their team. And it goes beyond work – they are always keen for a laugh or a coffee and I’ve felt really welcomed!
